The competition is run each year by Capco, a global technology and management consultancy. The aim is for students to analyse and present recommendations set against a fictional business in need of consultancy. This year the students were challenged to create innovative solutions to scale the revenues of a potential client in the insurance industry.
"After two months of hard work, our team - Bakyt Alimzhanov, Cyro Duarte, Kanishk Jain, Shankar Narayanan Ramasamy, and I - reached the final stage where we presented our solution to the management of Capco. We each brought our own diverse backgrounds to the table, and it was inspiring to see how our different professional and international experiences came together to solve the client’s problem" said Jason Gikonyo, one of the finalists.
We really enjoyed stepping away from our usual classroom focus on global decarbonisation and climate finance policies to work on an insurance business case, bringing back the excitement of my management consulting days.Jason Gikonyo, MSc Climate Change Finance and Investment student
Given that the UK insurance industry has its own unique regulations, our international team of students was especially excited to delve into the rules of the challenge and explore the workings of the insurance market. The creative solutions they came up with competed with other brilliant ideas coming from Scotland’s brightest students.
Even though we didn't win, we learned a great lesson and food for thought. Working together on this business case gave us ideas for creating sustainable insurance products, even if implementing them will take a lot of time and resources that we can't afford yet. The event broadened our horizons and we enjoyed the process, for which a huge thanks to Capco and the Business School Student Development Team.Bakyt Alimzhanov, MSc Climate Change Finance and Investment student
