It is now a month since UN Secretary-General António Guterres opened COP27 with a reminder that we are on "a highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator", and the outcomes are provoking mixed emotions.
Dr Ian Cochran attended COP27 as an observer from the University of Edinburgh Business School and believes there are two overarching challenges remaining for 2023:
- getting the domestic policy right that actually allows progress and for COPs to succeed
- ensuring the financial sector move from words to action and reduce the growing risk of ‘net zero greenwashing’ in practice
