B-CCaS member Ishbel McWha-Hermann recently ran a Small Group Meeting of the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP) in Glasgow, discussing the underlying psychological and social processes behind precarious employment and work.

According to the International Labour Organization, in 2019, 60% of the world’s working population worked in the informal sector, characterised by a lack of labour rights, social protection and decent working conditions. This meeting explored understandings of precarious employment through a psychological lens, exploring questions such as how workers perceive and experience precarious employment; what the manifold consequences of this kind of employment are; and what how precarious employment can be conceptualised and operationalised within the context of psychological research.
