Carbon pricing options for Taiwan

Annual greenhouse gas emissions in Taiwan reached a record high in 2017 and strong action is needed for Taiwan to reach its 2050 target of a 50% reduction relative to 2005 levels.

In 2020, Dr Luca Taschini co-authored a report arguing that carbon pricing alongside complementary policies would help Taiwan reduce emissions in a fair and cost-effective way. The report assessed the options for carbon pricing in Taiwan and sought to identify the key elements of a successful policy approach. Following publication, Dr Taschini has been invited to speak at the Office of Climate Change in Taiwan.
