The letter urges the Commission to include Scope 1, 2 and 3 Greenhouse Gas emissions in the list of mandatory disclosures included in the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). The letter notes that “Not including mandatory disclosure of GHG emissions forgoes the opportunity to define a global gold standard and is likely to result in lower ambition levels, globally”.
Dr. Cojoianu, who advises the European Commission on green regulation, told the Financial Times that the EU needs “disclosures at all costs, with no caveats on it”. He noted that sharing data on climate change is even more important than data on the social and governance issues given that “with climate change, we are talking about a public good for the entire world”.
